This Chinese-inspired dish is quick to prepare, healthy, and an excellent addition to any weeknight dinner or special gathering. Tender chicken strips coated in a zesty sweet chili sauce make this recipe a crowd favorite and a staple for your Asian cuisine collection.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, sliced into strips
  • 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or sesame oil
  • Optional: chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by slicing the chicken into evenly sized strips, then whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger to create the marinade and sauce.
  2. Place the chicken strips into a bowl, pour half of the sweet chili sauce mixture over them, toss to coat, and marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pour the remaining sauce into the skillet and simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Make sure the chicken is coated in the sauce.
  5. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced chicken for quicker cooking and better flavor absorption.
  • Adjust sweetness or spiciness by varying the amount of sweet chili sauce and honey.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, simmer longer until desired consistency is achieved.
  • For a healthier alternative, bake or air fry the chicken instead of pan-frying.
