- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 3 large apples, sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons milk or cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water gradually until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Roll out dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread sliced apples over half of the dough. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice; distribute over apples. Fold dough to cover filling and seal edges.
- Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk or cream to make glaze. Drizzle over warm kringle after baking. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute the apples with pears for a different flavor. Keep the dough cold for a flaky crust. Serve with extra vanilla glaze if desired.
