  • Total Time: 45-50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups frozen Tater Tots
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: cooked bacon bits, chopped chives

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef or turkey until browned. Add diced onions and cook until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese. Stir until well blended. Mix in the cooked meat mixture.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the meat and cheese mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese over the top.
  4. Distribute frozen Tater Tots evenly on top of the casserole in a single layer.
  5. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until Tater Tots are golden brown and crispy. For extra crunch, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.

Notes

  • Use high-quality shredded cheese for richer flavor.
  • Add cooked bacon bits on top for extra savory flavor.
  • For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken.
  • Prepare ahead and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking for convenience.
