  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Cooked white or jasmine rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 2-3 minutes. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef, stirring well to coat evenly. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes until flavors meld.
  4. Serve the savory beef mixture over cooked rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. For extra heat, add more red pepper flakes or hot sauce.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes according to your spice preference.
  • Serve with side dishes like kimchi or pickled vegetables for a complete meal.
