  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4-6 tablespoons ice water
  • 5 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add ice water gradually, mixing until dough forms. Divide in half, shape into disks, and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  5. Roll out one dough disk on a floured surface and fit into a pie dish.
  6. Fill with apple mixture, then cover with the second dough disk. Trim and crimp edges.
  7. Cut small slits on top crust for ventilation. Bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown.
