- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4-6 tablespoons ice water
- 5 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually, mixing until dough forms. Divide in half, shape into disks, and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll out one dough disk on a floured surface and fit into a pie dish.
- Fill with apple mixture, then cover with the second dough disk. Trim and crimp edges.
- Cut small slits on top crust for ventilation. Bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- You can substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free crust.
- Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
