Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large green cabbage head
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or dill
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully peel apart the cabbage leaves. Blanch leaves in boiling water for 2 minutes until pliable, then drain and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs. Mix thoroughly.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll up, tucking in the sides to secure.
- Arrange cabbage rolls seam side down in a baking dish. Mix tomato sauce with tomato paste and pour over the rolls.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes until cooked through and sauce is bubbling.
Notes
- Feel free to substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken for a healthier option.
- Adding a splash of lemon juice or a sprinkle of Parmesan can enhance the flavor.
