A hearty and satisfying dish featuring stuffed cabbage leaves baked to perfection with savory fillings and topped with a flavorful sauce.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage head
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or dill

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully peel apart the cabbage leaves. Blanch leaves in boiling water for 2 minutes until pliable, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll up, tucking in the sides to secure.
  4. Arrange cabbage rolls seam side down in a baking dish. Mix tomato sauce with tomato paste and pour over the rolls.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes until cooked through and sauce is bubbling.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken for a healthier option.
  • Adding a splash of lemon juice or a sprinkle of Parmesan can enhance the flavor.
