Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough, and divide into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
- Brush the tops with a little melted butter and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add herbs or cheese to the dough before baking.
- These rolls can be prepared a day ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
