Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough, and divide into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
  7. Brush the tops with a little melted butter and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
