Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- 1/2 cup milk or cream
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Chop the onion and mince the garlic.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent, then add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and paprika, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- In a greased baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, then top with some of the cooked ground beef mixture. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a potato layer.
- Pour milk or cream evenly over the layered casserole. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
- Garnish with fresh parsley, serve hot, and enjoy your hearty Hobo casserole!
Notes
- Use russet or Yukon Gold potatoes for best flavor and texture.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner variation.
- For extra flavor, add diced bell peppers or mushrooms to the ground beef mixture.
- Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in the oven or microwave until steaming hot for best results.
