Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of store-bought croissants or homemade croissant dough
- 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup of whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, additional chocolate, fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the croissants into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the croissants.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined to create the custard mixture.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, ensuring all are coated. Let sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. Let cool slightly before serving. Optional: add powdered sugar or chocolate drizzle for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use thawed frozen croissants if using pre-packaged ones. Ensure they are fully thawed for easier slicing and assembly.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute with gluten-free croissants or bread options.
- Enhance the flavor by adding nuts or berries into the layers before baking.
- Leftover bake can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat at 350°F for 10 minutes or microwave until warm.
