Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (9 oz) of tortellini pasta (cheese or meat-filled)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) of diced tomatoes or tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water. Add the tortellini and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add diced tomatoes or tomato sauce, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
- Stir in heavy cream or half-and-half into the tomato sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens and becomes creamy.
- Add cooked tortellini to the skillet and gently toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes to combine flavors.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil or parsley and grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy hot.
Notes
- Use high-quality tortellini for the best flavor and texture.
- Feel free to add sautéed vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or peppers for extra nutrition.
- For a richer sauce, splash in some white wine during simmering.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to control spice level.
